Asemic Visual Poetry by Judith Dagan (Carmel Coast, Israel)

Asemic visual poetry by Judith Dagan (Carmel Coast, Israel)

This is Judith Dagan's first appearance in the Asemic Front project. I extend a warm welcome & thank her for these tremendous vispo-asemic works. While artists & writers from all around the globe contribute to the project, this is the first time I have been fortunate to post asemic writing from Israel. So this blog is doubly exciting & another first for AF2.

Judith Dagan is a recent addition to the Eternal Network (international mail art). She is a member of the asemic writing group at the IUOMA-Ning, which has produced so many excellent visual poets & contributions to AF2.

In Judith Dagan's work I note a natural tendency toward image-text compositions with roots in Lettrism (although I am not sure if she is familiar with that 20th century movement). Thus it is not surprising that her asemic & vispo pieces are evolving rapidly with tremendous results. I look forward to sharing more work by Judith Dagan at AF2.

Asemic Visual Poetry Collabs by Cheryl Penn & Allan Bealy

Collab by Cheryl Penn (Durban, South Africa) & Allan Bealy (Brooklyn, New York, USA)

I am very happy to share these exceptional collaborations by Cheryl Penn and Allan Bealy that contribute substantially to the linguistic and visual exploration goals of Asemic Front 2.

Both Penn and Bealy are highly accomplished in the area of image-text (visual verbal) compositions. These pieces, while revealing a melding of highly original styles, draw upon roots in concrete and visual poetry, asemics, Lettrism and other related genres to deconstruct, reconstruct and create signs and systems of great interest and beauty.

Asemics by Linda Rogers (Toronto, Canada)

Asemic art by Linda Rogers (Toronto, Canada)

This colorful and densely layered card marks the first appearance of Linda Rogers in the Asemic Front project. She is a member of the asemic writing group at IUOMA and also a participant in the mail art network. Thus, this piece is a happy meeting of correspondence art and asemic writing-visual poetry.

Linda Rogers uses a minimal space (the postcard format) for maximum benefit. I can locate calligraphy, deconstructive asemics and invented symbols. The work has extraordinary depth. The curves and cross patterns suggest larger asemic structures and the ever-elusive "asemic syntax."

Many thanks to Linda Rogers for this wonderful contribution to Asemic Front 2. I'll be looking for more!
